Have you ever seen how a disc lock works? There's no room to get a cutting tool in there to cut it off, the disc is steel and is not easy to cut, you'd have to cut it twice to get the lock off, and you can forget cutting the lock itself!

It's too much trouble and is too time-consuming to attempt to cut a portion out of the disc, and that's the whole point. A disc lock is a theft deterrent device, not a theft preventive device; it's designed to make it too time-consuming and too much trouble to steal the bike, and it works. I would imagine that if someone saw you hacking away at the disc on a bike, the cops would be showing up pretty soon after that!

Disc locks... *rubs head and wonders why people still buy these*
Yeah you could cut the disc. But you obviously are not going to do that where the bike is parked.. so like other thefts this bike was picked up, tossed into a van and stolen.. Then at the shop they will just replace the whole disc instead of tearing up the one on the bike for no reason.

Here is a piece of information about disc locks. Lots of people buy them and use them... until the 1st time they forget to remove it and try to drive away. Then the disc lock usually becomes a UFO and lands as far from the bike as the owner could throw it. If they do it more then twice.. well they must have just slipped into the gene pool while the life guard was on break.

Like stated above, get a good chain or cable and lock bike to immobile, sturdy object.

A disc lock is about as much of a theft deterrent as a fork lock. Thieves can't roll, or ride your bike away. But they can just pick up your bike and throw it into the back of their truck.
It's better to use a big chain, and lock your bike to a stationary object.
If you do decide to use a disc lock - put a reminder sticker on your bike in plain view, or better yet, on your key to remind you the lock is there. I've heard lots of horror stories from riders that forgot the lock was there and try to ride off without removing it. Wrecked their plastics, fuel tanks, mirrors, etc.

First off, what the hell is Smidgen talking about. Secondly get an alarm that notifys you when someone is messing with your scooter. This way you can sneak up on them and crush their freaking skulls in with a baseball bat. Hit them in the kneecaps first as to incapacitate them this way they know what's comming. They will never mess with anyones scooter again and you'll be the hero of all who ride! To answer your question yes the disc can be cut but would take some time. I would think the thieven bastards would pass it up and go pick on someone else. Most disc locks come with a cord (like a coiled telephone cable) make sure you clip one end to your ignition switch this way you remember to take it off before you ride away otherwise you'll probably wind up on your ****.

Sure but with the same torch you could just cut the lock and save the rotor. There are no absolutes.

Not a good idea anyhow, dude. It unbalances the wheel, making the motorcycle unpleasant at speed and very dangerous to ride .
