I know where most people would LOVE for them to live… In prison. But luckily, we live in a society of laws. We live in a society where once you get out of prison, the public just can’t throw you back in because they don’t like your kind. There are over 500,000 registered sex offenders in the government database. Where are these sex offenders supposed to live?

Remember, the sex offense crimes run the gamut of taking a leak behind a 7-11 to the actual pedophiles who molest children.

Do you actually think a child is any safer if a sex offender can’t live within 2500 feet of a bus stop, school, playground, daycare…? Is the registered sex offender the ones you really have to worry about? Do you honestly think that ALL the sex offenders have been caught? Do you honestly think that ALL of your family members are innocent?

Sorry, I am getting off the subject.

My question again is: Where are sex offenders supposed to live WITHOUT being harassed? And yes, having a sign up in your yard pointing to your neighbor saying he/she is a sex offender is a form of harassment! If we aired out everybody’s dirty laundry, nobody would trust anybody. Everybody deserves a second chance.

I am a law student in my final year. When I get out, I am going to defend the rights of convicted sex offenders. Somebody has to!!!! Remember, just because somebody is a registered sex offender does NOT mean they are a child molester!!!

Do you actually think a child is any safer if a sex offender can’t live within 2500 feet of a bus stop, school, playground, daycare…? No. I know for a fact that a child is not safe from child molestors. Most molestations are done by family members or friends. Is the registered sex offender the ones you really have to worry about? Him and everybody else
Do you honestly think that ALL the sex offenders have been caught? Of course, no.

“Remember, the sex offense crimes run the gamut of taking a leak behind a 7-11 to the actual pedophiles who molest children.” You are making a good point. Honestly, I can’t think of anything good to say other than we need to rethink/reorganize/recategorize our crimes library.
“Everybody deserves a second chance.” I agree with you to a certain extent. I have little to no compassion for child molestors.

The truth is that very few sex offenders commit a second sex offense. The figures given by politicians and media outlets are intentionally false. There are maps at http://angryoffender.com/so_residency.html that actually show an area's 1000, 2000, and 2500 foot residency restrictions, and the 1000 is what is in effect in that city now. If you look at the 2500 foot one, you can easily see that over half the contents of the city limits get cut off. Also, these laws are actually endangering the children, not helping them. A real eye-opening article can be seen at:

http://www.wibc.com/news/article.aspx?id=1082239

Approximately 90% of new sex offenses are first-time offenses, which means that they are committed by someone WITH NO PRIOR CRIMINAL RECORD. Also, most of these offenses are committed by someone who is known to the victim, such as a family member or a teacher, not by a stranger.

Sex offender treatment programs have been studied and proven to reduce the reoffense rate by as much as 50% compared to offenders that go without treatment. Sex offenders "with something to lose" i.e. family, a home, a stable job, and friends are least likely to reoffend because they have so much they have rebuilt in life to lose again. These types of laws threaten these stabilizing elements in an ex-offender's life. Think about how dangerous you would become to those who took them if your home, job, and perhaps even your friends and family were ripped out from under you for no good reason.

With that background, the answer to the question "Where are sex offenders supposed to live?" is simple:

They are supposed to live wherever they want to live. Once they have served their time and gone through proper sex offender treatment programs, sex offenders need to be given the chance to create a life again. They are human, and many people forget that in their blind hatred. To deny a sex offender the same chance as any other criminal flies in the face of the concepts of forgiveness, ability to change, and the "do the crime, do the time" concept. When is a sex offender's time over? If the SO feels that the answer is becoming "NEVER! F*($! YOU SEX OFFENDERS! YOU SHOULD ALL BE CASTRATED!" then you can look forward to a lot of trouble in a neighborhood near you. Such attitudes cause the very problems they are trying to chase off.

Farms are a nice start. Lots of distance between the sex offender and the neighbors.

I agree that not every sex offender is a child molester; but a large number of are. This is because nothing gets the courts (and society in general) worked up than crime of child molestation.

What is really need is a better way to list sex offenders. Minor crimes such as indecent exposure and solicitng prostitutes are nowhere near the evil of crimes like rape, sexual abuse, manufacturing/distributing child pornography, etc.

i agree with one of your points, there are so many situations where somone can be labeled as a sex offender where it would be completly outragious such as taking a piss in public, which i have done on many drunken nights, and i consiter myself the farthest thing from a sex offender. but the one thing that i dont like about the laws relating to sex offenders is this: you know how they have level 1, level 2 and level three sex offenders? level three sex offenders are labeled as offenders who have a high risk of repeating their crimes again. so if the justice system knows this, WHY ARE THEY RELEASED FROM PRISON?!?! i thought prison was for people who are a risk to sociaty, and as long as the government recognizes these people as dangorous, they have no business releasing them they should be in prison for the rest of their lives, once you rape somone, molest a kid, or produce child pornography, you have proven that you cannot be trusted living in a free sociaty. however, somone who just takes a piss in public, hires a prostatute, or somthing like that, clearly deserves to be given a second chance.

and you need to remember alot of them sex offenders go after children. you'll find out when you get out on the field. they don't deserve to live any where but 40 feet in the ground. let the parents and victims give the sex offenders their just deserts. lawyers like you need to be thrown in prison with them.
