If you choose to find information online find a government website that can start you on the right level .To really begin to understand the American government you need to understand how to understand how society works and structure of the law and how law are written and structure in a way to keep society safe .Its very good to learn about the government as then you can have a debate with your local politician .Good luck

There is a Information site on the Government site for such purposes. I used it once, but actually, I forgot the address.......DUH ! www.governmentagencies.gov , not sure, but close. Good Luck and God Bless America !!
