I purchased a headset tonite at wal-mart, and got it plugged in, the mic worked for just a minute, and will not now, I can hear people, but they cannot hear me.Can you please tell me how to fix this problem, is it in my settings or is the thing just not working, it is brand new. Any help is greatly appreciated, I have been stressing over this thing the last 2 hours..........

What are you chatting to people over? If it's yahoo chat run through the voice assistant again on it, also make sure you reboot your PC after you plug it in. Do you have it hooked into a microphone port on your speakers or directly into your computer, if it's in the front of your PC look and see if theres a slot on the back (that would go directly into the sound card and would be a better route for it to go). Also do what the last person said and make sure your line in is turned on but also make sure everything else is turned in in your volume control also, if you can't find it in the way they mentioned click on start~all programs~accessories~entertainment~volume control.

go down to the toolbar on the bottom right corner. click the arrow pointing <-- that way. see the little speaker? double click that. check the box next to "line in" and make sure the slider is all the way at the top.

check your connections to your soundcard in the back. Also go to sounds within the control panel and you can check for sounds and adjust your microphone settings

you might even try to disable your firewall to see if that might work
