I don't know if it's the best, but it certainly is popular. It's also unpopular in that among computer savvy people, it's known to be a system hog and you have to pay for your yearly subscription. There are other free alternatives out there, which are probably better.

not really nortons is very annoying. Its hard to get rid of and uses a lot of your computers resources. And really there is no great internet security except common sense (don't got to adult websites, don't open forwarded emails, scan all email attatchments, don't accept files from people you don't know, and have a pop-up blocker) and scan your computer for stuff once in awhile. (but to do that you can scan use a free online scan...or a few if you want.)
The problem with things like nortons is they don't know what hackers are thinking or creating. They can only block viruses after they have already come out and started infecting people.
But if you are really worried use a firewall, moxilla, or a Mac.

if ur lookin for a good freebe.....go here.....
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
Avg pound for pound is the best out....its free and antiviruses like Norton and Mcafee cant hold a candle to it...it doesnt have as many options as the others but unlike Norton and especially Mcafee if u decide that u dont want it just uninstall it and its all gone.......Mcafee is almost impossible to get rid of.....plus w/ AVG when it finds a problem it shows u were the root of the problem is, which is nice because if for some reason Avg cant delete or quarrentine the issue it shows u exactly where its at in ur comp so u can manually delete it.....updates automatically....totally hands free.....plus its not a resource hog like Norton...Avast is another free one but it doesnt compare to AVG......u wont be disappointed w/ this program....
personaly.........i use norton internet security and have for 10 yrs.........to me its the best out there ........and it doesnt effect my comp performance wise.........

My answer is Yes and No, why??
Because it is Norton Internet security which also protect me from virus.
And why No? because its security create problem, can not deduct spy ware. Settings are not easy for new person. Customer service is very difficult (in Japan) I do not know in other countries.
Isn't it amazing that a free spy ware utility can deduct spy or ad ware but not Norton.
They get money for their Name: Norton
OK if not Norton then which software is good? I am sure no one can answer every soft has a flaw. Therefore, why not use Norton.
