By principle I mean something along the lines of "gratitude" or "helping others"....but feel free to include stuff like "getting my mind off things by listening to music", "walking in the park to feel connected to my spiritual side"
etc.
I'm trying to help some folks and have hit the point of "writers block"
Thanks for any inspiration
Be well

My initial reasponce to your question would be "This too shall pass". Many things the stress or depress you are temporary.

But as a writer, I have to say, "what comes next in the plot?" Look at the plot, have you introduced too many variables? Have you had so many twists that even you don't know what direction you are going. If you outline your plot go back to that. Somtimes the creative process goes too far and you lose sight of what you were writing about.

Stress and depression are different.

However, I realize there are two reasons we're all here.

1. To have the best time we can while on the planet. It's a playground for the soul. Enjoy and the senses. experience the wonder of it all. It's not a dress rehearsal.

2. To make this place better than we found It. To be of service. Help out ourselves and others every day. Love yourself and others.

Showing gratitude for even the smallest wonder of life puts us in a better mood. depressions is anger turned inward.

For example, I have had to let got of my very emotionally and physically abusive family WHO refused to treat me decently despite numerous times I've tried to get them into counseling. I have learned of their undiagnosed extreme mental and behavioral disorders. Some would lament not having a family anymore. I Did. Then I saw how good it felt and the relief from the verbal insults, lies, etc., and I was very grateful I chose to make my family only those who could treat me decently.

Blood IS NOT< IS NOT < IS NOT Thicker than water and I must stress this 1000 times.

Stress is self imposed and the what if scenario must by be put into place. What if I can't get the job done on time. What if I can't get to do all I have to do today, etc. It is imperative we make daily lists and prioritize them in terms of importance, then cross the thongs off as they get done. We therefore see accomplishment. Also, we must network with others, ask for help and ideas, try out what seems to work, and help others when they also seek help.

It is sort of like love. If we don't feel loved, it is only because we are not giving it away in different way, like contribution and service. Once we do that, we feel lovable. NO amount of jewelry or diamonds will take the place of feeling useful.

The best way to deal with stress and depression is to try to
understand the underlying problems that are causing the stress and depression. Stress can lead to depression. It is
best to know why and then go from there with how to deal
with this condition. We don't have to settle for stress and
depression. There are different ways to cope for each individual. If sports help do it. If simple walks help keep
walking. Medicine and talking to a good doctor are often the best answer especially if this is a long term condition. It takes
alot of things to keep healthy when you are suffering from
stress and depression. A good diet, sleep, excerize. Social
and spiritual help. Being kind to yourself!

Stress and depression start in your brain--if you are finding it hard to pinpoint the thoughts that are causing depression, then go to something physical and concrete. Excercise. I guarantee that if you begin excercising for at least 30 minutes 6 days a week, you will immediately see results. I struggle with depression a lot, and for no reason. But excercise cures my depression almost completely. It gives me energy and makes me feel physically better and takes away nearly all of my symptoms of depression.

When i'm really really stressed, i hang out with my friends, go out for a couple of drinks .. i don't look for pity but find a million ways to break my stress ..

But if those options are unavailable, i play my guitar .. And soemthing i noticed when i do this is that i end up playing sorrowful music ..

From my experience, stress is pretty important in life if you want to enjoy the periods you are stress-free .. Puts things in a complete different perspective ..

When I get all caught up in this world, worrying about my bills, my car, my emotions; I have to remember that someday I will die. In other words, all of this matters very little when it comes to eternity. Don't worry. Much of the things we worry about are petty. Many of the things we worry about never actually become a reality. Exercise and being closer to the Creator help a lot with everything, including depression. If you really need to get your mind off the world, smoke a joint.

Talk with other people, social contact, finding out about their lives. Even a 5 minute conversation with some stranger on the bus helps- it's better than nothing.

I was going to say beer or drugs, but thats now what you are asking for.

So i say myself, not me now, but me aged 10, a long time ago. I know that is not good for some people, but i like to imagine myself at that age, when i could look at the sun for hours and imagine my life. My life may not be what i imagined, but if you look at the sun, you can take yourself back to your childhood and you forget everything, your a kid again.

Self-Control.

It is about not allowing communication (messages YOU chose to receive and the translation YOU give them) to guide your sense of identity. Control communication and depression doesn't exist.
