I think they should. In the business world you are told how to dress. It should be started early. Also, since everyone wears the same clothing there will be less envy or teasing among the students

No, for a couple of reasons.
First, the correlation between student success and uniforms is skewed. Most schools that use uniforms are private schools, where student success is bound to be higher regardless of dress code. But, advocates of uniforms will ignore that and say that its the uniforms that are keeping the students in check.
Secondly, there's the possibility that the student or his/her family would have to pay for the uniforms. While this isn't uniform everywhere (excuse the pun), it does happen in some areas, and there are some families out there that can not easily afford one or two uniforms for their child or children.

Yes I do agree because uniforms save money, and allow children to focus their interests elsewhere other than on what they are wearing but it can also be seen as another form of cultural assimilation, which could in turn suppress efforts at self-expression and identity construction. Yet many children have found that uniforms act as semi-neutral sites of social contestation where everyone becomes equalized and appears similar to a degree (in this case, similar dress).

I always enjoyed wearing a uniform to school.
It meant I never had to think about what to wear, I saved money on clothes and it was a lot harder to put people into groups based on what they wore (e.g. who was fashionable or not, goths, surfies etc.)
There was always the weekend to express individuality... just made a period usually drenched in judgment a little more bearable for many teenagers.

It would lower gang activity at my school for sure and everyone would be on an equal playing field, no more "he/she is a better dresser than bobby joe." people would also save money and not feel like they were being judged by other all the time.

Yes. It eliminates fashion competitions and inappropriate types of clothing (clothing that is too brief, suggestive, promiscuous or has wording that is rude) It sends out a message that everyone in that school is treated equally.

Chicago Public Schools have a dress code. White shirts and black or blue pants...goes for girls too. It works for safety reasons and no one is jealous of anyones duds.
