I understand where you are coming from. You feel if you tell him that you smoked weed. Then he will feel like it is ok to try it too. Right? Then if you catch him, if he ever tries it, then he will say, well you did it when you was young too.

Been there with my son... I never did any kind of drugs.
But my hubby did when he was a teenager, and eventually my son asked and my hubby probably told him more than he needed to know. We have had problems with our son smoking weed. He is now 20 almost 21.

I think it is good to be honest. But dont go into detail about any drugs you have ever done.

Yes I have an older teenage son, when he was younger he asked me these questions., I told him the truth about what I have done in the past and told him of the results of my unfortuant mishaps., This lead us to better talks and understanding of what is out in the world today and not to be pressured on what is the new item that everyone "is doing", .This has helped our farther -son bond and our relationship is great

You should be honest with your child if you want honesty from your child you have to set the example, in admitting that you are not perfect and you make mistakes if you try to masker your record shinewith lies this is exactly what you are teaching your child to do little lies white lies pink lies purpke or even black lies, they are all lies no matter if they are big or small white or black they teach children that it is ok to lie if you are in a tight spot, and then they will feel justified to lie to you also. If your parents lied to you in the past do you know? And when you found out what did you think or do?

Yes and I do my best to talk about the subjects with my son,who is almost 13. It is a challenge at times but I am glad he feels he can talk to me about them.I'm not always forth coming about actual things that I have done because I do not want him to throw it in my face at a later time in anger.I try to let him now what he is going through is normal and try to give him the tools to make good choices for himself.Good luck.

Be thankful he is coming to you about it. Sounds like he really trusts you. I have never done any drugs so I have no idea what is the right way to handle this but I am pretty honest with my kids. So I would probably tell them the truth if I was in this position.

I'm not a parent but I've asked my parents some pretty intrusive questions. My mom was pretty frank about stuff, my dad wasn't. I think it's bad to hide stuff from your kids. Trust me, they KNOW when you're hiding something. They might imagine it to be worse than what you really did. Go ahead and reveal all.

I would always try to ask my mother questions. Never got any answers. Soooo frustrating. Made me feel like I was living with a stranger. I say answer them.

I'm not a parent, but my mom has always been very honest with me about her past and her stupid mistakes. It has helped me to know what NOT to do.

I have always told my kids--16 and 14--that I would be honest with them. Tell them the truth--respect them and they will respect and be honest with you. Being a kid is as hard as being a parent!!
