Is there any websites with examples/pictures of how to apply make-up on brown skinned women?
How to:

make smokey eyes
daytime/natural make-up
evening/party make-up
sophisticated evening make-up...

...and other tricks on how to make the eyes pop, this and that....
It's very hard to choose foundation and concealer for me.
I went to MAC in the mall, they applied foundation and powder...
I came out and looked totally different in the daylight.
I know that the light inside is different than outside.
I wanna invest in a good quality foundation, but don't want it to be too dark, too light and make it look "ashy".

ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Thank you so much in advance!

It's hard to predict how the foundation will look on your face,by just looking at the bottle and guessing. The hand is usually a different shade than your face anyway..... where can I find Merle Norman? Or whatever you called it? Thanks!

My folks are from India, so I have brown skin, black hair, and brown eyes.

I have caramel highlights which I adore. They are the color of my eyes.

I just experimented with smokey eye thus:

I used a primer on my lids (urban decay's, but mary kay's is also a good one, and I'm sure you can get other great ones)

I lined my eyes close to the lash line with Styli-Style's black line and seal pencil. I love this, it goes on smooth and then has staying power for me. I don't have very oily skin. I'm in my early 40s, so if anything, dryness is a problem.

I lined the lower lid as well with the same pencil getting into the rim.

I used regular eye shadow brush and used mac pigment in teal to go over the line on the top.

Then, I used an eye shadow brush with a little transformer liquid (I use the cake eye liner sealer on makeupmania.com - it's cheap and does the trick) and transformed urban decay's dry goddess eyeshadow into a wet one, and I went from the teal shadow, upwards.

I have a sort of ivory/beigish "eye slick" that used to be made by "Club monaco" and I used that on my brow bone. Find a highligghting shade that works for you - I find ivory/beige to be a good shade for me.

I filled in between the highlighted section and the crease witha lighter blue from a milani denim blues palette that I bought for 5.99

Then, I lined my lower lashes with urban decay goddess eye shadow. the result is supermodel stunning. Even though I'm "old", I look very young and this is a GREAT night-time "pow, right in the kisser" kind of impact look.

Lips: Im wearing Nars Hindu. It's a great neutral for our skin color. I wore several layers to really get that color in there.

I used the nars hindu as a blush too. Nice plummy brown.

My foundation right now is revlon's colorstay in toast. I was liking the N8 color in Loreal's line, but for some reason they make it darker now (it's called True Color and it was cappucino)

I also like Sally Hansen's airbrush flawless makeup in natural beige spice and real cosmetics (no longer in business, the owner is looking for a buyer) in Karachi although that was often too sheer.

I set my makeup with Mac's dark powder. You can't really see it, but it's good to set the makeup.

I also wear Revlon's raisin rage, and another color, that's got the word berry in it (not black berry).

go to www.blackrefer.com offers beauty products for women of color-for all the various skin tones that there are. One advantage that brown/drkskinned women have is that the concentration of melanin in the skin gives much more protection against the ageing effects of the sun---significant less wrinkling than in light skin tones. More so important than make-up are antioxidants reams, lotions that protect the skin from the stressful effects of the enviromnent and the stress of daily living and a non-oily moisterizer for healthy -good-skin does not require a lot of make-up>the newest thing, which I love for gives a smooth look to the skin is mineral Poweder and Blush -both have no talc but only beneficial minerals including silica.Instead of penetrating into the pores-can cause skin breakouts/can cake after so much wear-the mineral based stays on the surface of the skin giving a smooth, even tone to the skin and no foundation (not good for skin anyway) is required. Same with the blush. do a search under "Cossmetics for women of color" and you'll find many sites with the help you are looking for.Keep in mind too that a happy, pleasant spirit gives voice to beauty.

It is very hard to match darker skin colors, since darker complexions are richer and sometimes deeper than the shade in the foundation. I would suggest you focus on finding a mineral foundation, which is powder based and you are able to blend it and it only enhances your skin tone and gives you coverage without build up or covering your natural tone. Mineral based foundation is now easy to find, almost in every drug store or cosmetic store. As for your eyes, apply a eye shadow one shade lighter than your natural tone along the brow bone above your natural crease in your eye lid. For a dramatic effect take a shadow one shade darker than your skin tone and apply along the inside of the crease.

i also have had a problem with finding the exact color of foundation for my skin. everything else is either too dark or too light.
the only foundation that works for me is Colorstay by Revlon and i use the shade Toast.
but i think that finding the right shade for your skin is something you have to do yourself. it's hard for others to decide for you over the internet. maybe you should go shopping with a friend who can tell you which shade is right for you.

:)

hope that helps.

i go into merle norman (i think thats how u spell it...) and they set me up with foundation eye stuff lip stuff blush and pretty much anything you need. they will put it on and teach you how to do it, so even if you dont find the right foundation or something, you will probably find something else you love.

I think like a violet-pink colo would look really nice for eyeshadow.
