I like a mixture of both, actually. This way, i can make nice main
colors with the color pencils and i can make some easy shading with the crayons. They are both fun, though. ^_^

none of them is childish if you know how to use them. they are efficient in their way. besides, drawing good with colored pencils is more difficult sometimes, than with crayons. there are two types of crayons: oil crayons and ones that are like a chalk and both have a great effect.
what is more,I don't think that a mixture of crayons and colored pencils look good together.. crayons are often mixed with watercolor or gouache.. so, I guess everything depends on your taste and technology of drawing :)

I would have to say both but it seems like only little kids use crayons. Coloured pencils seems a bit 3-D ish.

Why not both?

Make an artwork using both. Perhaps you use that combination all the time, it becomes your style and what people recognize you for. You could become famous for the first person that combined two mediums in one new unique style!

Then school students will be studing you in their school art books. You will be wealthy and live happily ever after. The End.

I suggest color pencils when application is bold or a light touch, Using color pencil creates better shading. try shading two colors together to create a different color.
