having 2 anti virus applications can cause conflicts....i would just stick with one..(AVG)
if you have had the pc for a while, there is a lot of crap on there you would have to manually delete, including registry entries...personally, i like to do a fresh install of the os every year or so and start over...make sure you back up your media and pics on cds/dvds or on another partition
edit: i would recommend you stay away from norton products, i guarantee when you look in that task manager, norton has about 10 processes running with the realtime scanner at the top as far as memory usage goes...
back up data, reinstall windows with avg and you will be smooth sailing

My laptop came with a recovery disk. It erases every thing on your hard drive, and re installs, what came on it when you bought it, so it is just like new, and you get all of that space back, now my disk will work on any pc that is Toshiba, so you really should of had something like that. I know i have used it several times, and it really works great. You have to go into you programs and delete Norton, if you do ont want it running, while you have the AVG downloaded on there. I know that is are really good program too. You can also writh the people who make your labtop, and quit often, they will send you what you need to get your labtop running right, or any pc. So you could also try that. All the things that you did up there is just normal stuff that you need to do often, but you should see if you can get a full recovery disk, mine came with mine laptop, and i keep it in a safe place. I will warn you to take anything you want off of the computor cause it is going to wipe it clean of everything you have added or put on it. Then it just re installs the factor stuff, so your machine should be like new, and have all that memory back and all.

I know it is frustrating and I will do my best to help. First hit control alt delete and access the task manager. There are several tabs on top one of them says processes. Click on that tab and it will bring up a list of things running on your computer. The ones that are using the most resources are the ones with the numbers constantly changing. See which process is fluctuating the most and what program it belongs to (this can be done with google by typing in the process name. See if there are back ground programs that are using up all your resources. This may help. Other tools are system mechanic and Norton System Suite. Good Luck

Norton isn't a problem. If you are running slower than what you were I'd say it was a RAM problem. Bring up the task manager and see what task is running the highest. If it's something you recognize delete it or see if it's running properly. If you don't see anything I'd run AntiVirus next as well as AdAware. If worse comes to worse you could just do a complete reinstall. Not the best plan of action but you'd def start from scratch.

first i would recommend getting rid of norton. i would download a free copy of ad aware se and with it run a full system scan. depending on how old it is . while your in add/remove programs removing avg and norton remove anything else you dont need. delete cookies. remove all screen icons that u can access from your programs. all of this should help signifigantly. norton is a big slow down by itself it and mcfee are the 1st things i remove. also how much ram do u have? 512 is about avg. u might consider adding ram! good luck!!

You can put the laptop back to the original factory settings by pressing ctrl and F11 at the dell logo as soon as you switch it on (this will delete everything you have installed so BACKUP). you might have to try this a couple of times because it can be hard to get it started. if this fails, phone the dell tech support and they will supply you with the windows cd etc... if you dont have them already
