We were watching a movie the other day, and I made the comment that something was 'Dead Grotty'
My dad got mad, because apparently, he didn't know what I meant. I said "You know, grotty... grotesque."
And he said "OH, you mean Grow-tee."
Now we're in an argument. I read somewhere that Brits pronounce it 'Grot-ee', but the yanks pronounce it 'grow-tee' or 'grow-dee'
hmmm? There's no real right or wrong answer, just opinion.

I think you're mixing up words. Grotty is a Brit thing, and you pronounce it "graw-tee." It means dirty and nasty. Grody is pronounced "grow-dee" and means...gross. It's like, totally an 80's valley girl thing!

'Grot-ty', or 'Grot-ee'...same thing anyway. I'm from Australia and that is how we pronounce it, at least where I live, it may change depending on where you are from. My friends and I went through a stage where we always said 'that's grotty', and we pronounced it as I've written above.
I've never heard it pronounced as 'grow-dee' or 'grow-tee'
