If you want to split a broadband internet connection there are two ways.

The Easy Way is to purchase a Router, not a Hub, and connect the two computers to the Router and the router to your broadband internet modem.

The harder way is to connect one computer to the broadband modem using a ethernet port. And on that same computer have a second ethernet port connected to the second computers ethernet port.

Then after manually setting the IP addresses and subnets on both computers you go back to the first computer and bridge the two ethernet ports together by going to network connections and right clicking on one of the network ports and select bridge and then select the other network port.\

If you dont have any knowledge of networking I suggest the easy way.

1. Just go for a broadband modem which has USB mode. set the modem up in first PC using the usb.
2. Now connect the PC and Laptop using a crossover ethernet cable.
3. Make them same network
4. Use a free software like Neviscope proxy in the first PC where u have the broadband connection. goto configure in neviscope and remove the tick mark which blocks network PCs from using neviscope as proxy.
5. Now in the Laptop, open IE and goto Tools-Internet Options-Connections-LAN Setting and tick "Use a Proxy..." give the ip of the first PC and port 81. tick "Bypass...."

You are ready in both PC

all you need is a router. the modem plugs into it and the computers each up to 4 plug into the router. if you want to use wireless, then you'll need the wireless cards for each and also a wireless router.
