Girl im sucking on some laffy taffy RIGHT NOW! and just one day after my glucose screening. lol

If you do it in moderation and make sure you are drinking LOTS of water... we should be ok.. That sweet tooth is a killer habit to fight.

According to the American Diabetes Association, you're considered at high risk for this condition (and should be screened early) if:
• You're obese (your body mass index is over 30).
• You have a history of gestational diabetes (you've had the condition in a previous pregnancy).
• You have a strong family history of diabetes.

Some practitioners will also screen you early if:
• You're found to have sugar in your urine (your urine is tested at each prenatal visit).
• You've previously given birth to a big baby (some use 8 pounds, 13 ounces as the cut off; others use 9 pounds, 14 ounces).
• You've had an unexplained stillbirth.
• You've had a baby with a birth defect.
• You have high blood pressure.

How many weeks are you? Have you had your screening yet? i am 24 and had mine yesterday.

Also, The American Dietetic Association concluded that aspartame is safe during pregnancy and lactation. It is recommended to limit consumption to a moderate level.

I think you probably COULD get gestational diabetes...but only if you had the predisposition in the first place. Aspartame is supposedly not good for pregnant women (or anyone for that matter) but I would recommend getting off soda all together. The sodium will really get you in the third trimester and your feet will be horribly swollen!!

I don't think it's bad that you are indulging your sweet tooth. Just make sure you are still eating balanced meals in between your sugary snacks. Remember, your growing baby needs the vitamins!!

i'm not entirely sure about those questions but that's a thought that i should ask my doc. i too have been craving candy and sweets but i've also been choosing fruit over m&m's (it's much harder to give up a snickers and chocolate chip cookies though).

I think you just develop gestational diabetes according to genetics and things like that. I ate a lot of heath candy bars and me and baby are perfectly fine. Just be sure to have a lot of good for you foods too.
