I don't think so. At the age of 3, he'll adjust quickly. Besides, the last name is always changed when you adopt, and many asians take on a new, Americanized first name when they come to the U.S.
Besides, how do you know that Pax's previous name was meaningful to him? Oliver Twist (fictional, I'll admit) was so named because T was the next letter in the alphabet. I have a feeling that Pax will get over his old name and never even remember it or feel he lost anything.

I don't agree with it. I've noticed people have put " She adopted him so she can do whatever she wants" I think that is extremely demeaning. Angelina rants about wanting her kids to stay true to their culture, but she changes a THREE year olds name like he is a pet or something.
It isn't like he is a baby, this is a three year old boy. And it wasn't like she was trying to give him an American name. She changed his name from Pang to Pax- what was the point?!

If the children are of an age where they have already identified with their name, I think it is a bit cruel.
Perhaps at the very least I would have them keep their birth name as their middle name and slowly introduce them to the concept of their "New American" name.

Yes, I think changing a 3yr old childs first name is wrong. The middle and last name are not as important because they take awhile to learn them anyway. She is trying to fill a void in her life with children and I only hope she stays sane and can care for those children.

I think out of respect for his cultural heritage she should try to help him stay as connected as possible. Adopted children should be allowed to retain the names they've grown used to. Give him a nickname but don't take away his ties to his people.

No, it's not wrong too do what ever she felt comfortable at.
It is her business, therefore her judgement call.
Angelina Jolie adopted the children not everyone else!

the name she gives him should be a nick name, not a permanent name he registers with when getting licenses, registrations, credit cards, etc.

Adopting one or 2 babies does not something to handle the real issues occurring in impoverished international places. that's merely the celebs amassing babies and feeling like saviors while they're frequently sidestepping the regulations to get carry of those babies. for my area, i might extremely stay in my own usa and subculture and language than stay my existence as somebody's puppy. And wasn't Madonna investment the orphanage that Mercy became residing in? If it became such an undesirable place and he or she became investment it, what does that say approximately Madonna?
