I would have of said never, but the way he's playing right now anything is possible. He's taking shots within the offense and shooting over 50% for the field and 90% of his free throws. But he better do it before they get KG next year or it will never happen......

Kobe Bryant can be very frustrating and very amazing and this is one of the amazing times...!!!!!!

That's obviously a very, very tough record to break.

And, for the record, it's Chamberlain, not Chamberlin.

It would have been difficult for Kobe to have scored 100 if he played in Wilt's time. When Kobe scored 81, seven of his FG were three pointers...there was no 3 point shot in those days, therefore, playing the exact same game he did against Toronto, he would have scored 74. So instead of coming up with another 19 points, he would have to have come up with another 26 points... that's a big difference.

To score 100, Kobe would have to be UNBELIEVABLY hot from 3 point range... he'd also probably have to play all 48 minutes (as Wilt customarily did), and nobody can do that anymore. Kobe played 42 minutes on the night he scored 81.

Getting 3 point plays by constantly driving to the hoop and getting fouled can be exhausting... that's why Kobe would have to be incredibly hot from long range...but he CAN be hot from long range, he's done it plenty of times.

And of course, he's also a great free throw shooter, which would be a huge key... Wilt hit 28 of 32 from the line when he scored 100, and for those of you who never saw Wilt play (and that's most of you), he was a career .511 FT shooter. Shaq is a career .528 shooter, so they were comparable in this area... you don't see Shaq having a 28 of 32 streak from the foul line (even over several games), and with Wilt, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Wilt's 28 free throws made remains a single-game record to this date.

So yes, Kobe COULD score 100, under perfect circumstances... WILL he score 100? Most likely, no.

What would be interesting to see is, if Kobe (or someone) ever got "close", how would they go for it? Eighty one isn't close... what would be "close" is if you had 80-85 points, but still had another 5 or 6 minutes or so left on the clock (Kobe scored 81 and played all but 6 minutes).

Also, with regard to getting his teammates involved...this is, of course, the ideal way to play the game...however, if ANY player (not just Kobe) got incredibly hot and had 75-80 points with a few mintues left, his teammates wouldn't WANT to be involved... they'd most likely keep feeding him the ball in order for him to get as many shots as possible, realizing that such a game might not happen again. Any other player on the team who dared to take a shot in that situation would be booed out of the building, regardless if the game was at home or on the road.

As much as some fans claim to want to see great teamwork exhibited during a game, the fact is that, if they were at a game and a guy got that hot, they'd want him to score as many as he could.

In the 80s and 90s, people left Chicago Bulls games raving about how many points Michael Jordan scored, not about how many assists he had or how well he "got his teammates involved".

Kobe will not break Wilt's record for points in a game. As great a player Kobe is. He is in his prime, and although he is getting near the mark, he isn't as dominate a player as Wilt was at his time. Kobe might be the best player in the league right now, but I am pretty certain he will never break the record.

I think he can do it. I don't know if he will though. He has the green light to take as many shots as he wants and he gets hot like he did when he scored 81 at least 7 or 8 times a year. Just think of the stat line: 35-54FG, 23-26FT, and 8-14 3FG for 101 points! When he scored 81 he shot 28-46FG, 18-20FT and 7-13 3FG. Compare the numbers, it's not that far fetched. I think he has a two year window to do this because after that he'll be 31 and I think he'll start to decline a bit.

I don't believe so. Kobe is a an amazing basketball player and if he was playing in Wilt Chamberlains era he probably would've scored 100. But, the NBA today is too competitive and the chances of him scoring another 80 point game is minuscule. Regardless, it 's always a treat to watch him play.

well he did score 81 points very easily i think if it was against a team that was in last place and phil jackson set it up to where he could score all the time than yes he probably would score more than 100 but i dont think that would ever happen because of the politics in the NBA I.E. david stern the gestapo of the NBA

A few weeks ago I would've called you crazy.

Right now, I'm not so sure what to believe any more. The guy is defying all odds.

4-game winning streak; 4-Fifty point games....jeez. You really can't ask for any more than this. Phil Jackson told him to take over. Guess he got the message.

effin retarded question.

NO. not a chance..as selfish as kobe is, even a ballhog like him can't come close. and the only way he will keep getting 50 point games is if the refs keep giving him presents by sending him to the line even when he isn't touched. what a snitch

I doubt it

50 points for a few games is impressive, but 100 points - that is hard to believe!

G'day Connor Comeau,

Thank you for your question.

It is possible given his form. However, 100 points plus is a lot of points to score in a match so I think it is more likely that he won't than he will.

Regards
