The secret is cell phones aren't magic they use frequency waves just like your t.v. and radios and even home phones. Sometimes you can pick up other peoples signal and hear thier conversations or you may hear a radio or even a baby monitor. If it is static it is just because they are using the waves. There are certain frequencys they use and if there are alot of people in your area using it you may not even be able to make a call. Your phone may then say it is busy or some error msg and you can usually check error msg numbers through your providers website troubleshooting tutorials, which is the same thing customer service uses to assist you when you have problems. Alot of new phones have a hard time keeping a good strong signal and are sometimes weak having some static especially if they are the new gsm phones ALOT of the razors and small flip phones have signal and static problems and since GSM is new to the cell phone world. If you have an older model you may experience problems due to the fact alot of companys have caught on to the gsm and are doing away with tdma towers. GSM is better although all the kinks haven't been worked out fully yet.

Your TV and radios emit RF (radio frequency) signals that are positive, your cell phone also emits RF signals that are positive. Think of it like a magnent...two positives will push off. Also, this has a lot to do with your wireless carrier. GSM (used by cingular) emits a large amount of RF signals because of their SIM Cards. CDMA (Used mainly by Verizon) emits a much lower amount of RF...they also keep their SAR (Measures the maximum quantity of radiation absorbed by one Kilogram of tissue from a cell phone) ratings well below the National Average. It also depends on the phone Samsungs and ericksons emit the highest amount of RF. LG emits well below the normal amount.

Mine does the same thing when I am receiving a text. I think it's just general frequency interference.
