Realistically, I think it's too late. Many of the world players started when they were 5 or something... (I did too.) Unless you are really exceptionally super good at it, it would be very hard to play tennis "professionally" if that means becoming a world-class player. But if "professionally" means school-player then yes, it is very possible. This is because tennis really isn't a game that you can pick up very fast, unlike something like badminton.
Anyway, if you really have the passion for it, I'd say go for it and see whether you have the talent or not. Then, you'll know where you stand..

It's never too late! There are some WTA tour players who started late. I would advise you to join your local tennis club in your area and get some lessons and maybe a coach. Coaches help a lot when you're in need of some assistance. Go seek out the help of a coach, ask him to help you out. Sure, you may pay a lot for coaches, but they're worth it. There are some players, like me, who train by themselves since the local tennis clubs are far away (trust me, I live in the bushes).
But my first suggestion would be to learn the game first, and then ask some other tennis players that you know to help you buy your equipement, but be wary;people will say anything to get you to buy some products. Test them out first before buying. Go to your local library and take out some books that describe tennis and the entire game.
Oh, an don't worry about being a late player. I'm fourteen and I'm just beginning, but I have the same dream as you, which is to play like a professional, in the WTA and ITF tours.

I know my answer is too long, but please take time to read this because it might help you.
No its not late at all. I started playing tennis when i was 13 last year. I took group lessons twice a week and i took some private lessons for two months before my tryouts in school . I really worked hard and now i am 14 and i am playing for my high school tennis team. while you practice tennis practice running too. Because running is the most important thing in tennis.
once you join the tennis team in your school, you will get better and better everyday. Because you have to practice everyday with your school. After atleast 2 or 3 years of playing in your school, trust me you wont believe how much you improve your tennis skills. by the way join USTA if you want to in summer because you play against people your age. It helps you a lot with your skills.
If you want to join USTA go to
www.usta.com
GOOD LUCK

I think it's too late to become the professional player, but not late to play good. That's right cause I'm playing tennis for 7 years, so I try and want to become the 1st in WTA.

Find a tennis club in your area, it may be part of a Golf and tennis club, and talk to the pro. See if he can or will access your playing potential, or if he can recommend someone who can. Most tennis pro start when they are 6 or 7, but there is such a thing as a Phenom

Way too late. Bad sport to play professionally anyway. Not much money and a tremendous amount of competition. It's not to late to get really good and possibly get a college scholarship. This can lead to teaching the sport as a country club pro or racquet club pro if you are intent on making a career of it.

I would start but get an awesome coach. You aren't cut out for pro. tennis if:
don't listen & mouth off the coach
must be a quick thinker & have excellent reflexes
must run at least 3 days of the week for endurance
Not to be rude but you're not going to make to the pros. when you just start at 13. Sorry.

That is late, but if you have the drive and desire to do well then i guess anything is possible. The first thing you have to do is get a private coach or atleast private lessons. Then just practice, practice, practice. But remember although it may be a lot of work, you need to have fun, that is most important. Good luck!

professionally? or competitively? If you arent already really really really good, you cant be a proffesional if you are new at it. it just doesnt work. you can compete though, as soon as you get better. join a tennis team or sign up for lessons

wow, really late. however, if you posses the drive to get good in a short period of time and have time to play seriously for 4 hours everyday then yes. the most important rule is get a private coach!
ALSO, DO NOT LISTEN TO PEOPLE WHO SAY JOIN YOUR LOCAL CLUB. YOU HAVE TO GET A GOOD PRIVATE COACH. TRUST ME.
