Very good question, indeed. Lots of answers needed here, lol...I do believe in faeries for I have seen them when I was younger. They exist on a different vibrational plane than our own and can come and go to this realm as they please. They are very helpful beings but if you do not truly respect them, as anyone would, they are not apt to allow you to see them.
Mainly they live in faery glens, or mossy areas, places with ferns, and they are not all like the fantasy fairies. There is a difference between a fairy spelled with an "i" and a faery, spelled with an "e"....Fairies are the fantastical mythological beings that are usually beautiful and have wings and are very tiny or there are other various types of fairies. The faery folk are similar but they are NOT mythical...They do exist, they choose to remain unseen to people whom are not true believers. Some books are "mumbo jumbo" as you say, yes...There are also books that are quite accurate....I am sorry I do not know which book you have but the most I can say is that I do believe they exist and there are many varieties of them...Some can be mischevious but most are very, very loving and helpful!

I agree with Luna H and everyone else, so I won't elaborate.. I have a book simply called Faeries - by Brian Frond and Alan Lee..I recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject.. Also if you go to my profile and click on wannabeahippi, then go to her profile and e-mail her with your question.. She has a daughter who is an "Indigo Child" and her daughter has "the sight" as she is extremely psychic.. I am sure she would be more than happy to communicate with you on this.. Love and Light.. )O(

My mother was one of the most loving, most sane, most educated and cultured people I have known. She worked at the U.N., was in service to the community for most of her life, cared for and loved by hundreds of people. Those who mourned her were in the hundreds (high hundreds).
She saw fairies. So have I (which is no proof, of course).
Most of it is still nonsense.
Be very careful. Look at all arguments against it first.
They aren't the sweet fairies of Disney fame. They were known as the "Good folk" to AVOID getting their attention, to placate them. They were left things to keep them from their cruelties against people (or what people though of as cruel ways because they didn't understand them.)
They have a culture and way of dealing with things developed because of their environment and biology, that is very alien to us.
Enough. Just be careful to get books by the skeptics before you start reading the New Age stuff.

I sat for a good while in a fairy circle in the national park just outside Killarny. They were there, but I am too old and slow to find them as they tease.

Attracting them is no problem, an offering of corn bread in the garden has always been enough for me. But just what are you going to accomplish getting mischievous, xeno even, entities grouped up in one place? This is what I want to know.

ANY book that gives you names is probably false. Usually names have power when it comes to mythical. Calling up is a different situation and is usually something easy to attempt. All depending on belief and mindset.
