It is not a nice place to be, I have done two 5 year stretches in my life the first one i tried to beat the system and found myself doing hard time. The second stretch I got my head down, learnt how to read and write, was given parole early, met my now wife and got my head screwed on. I would not reccomend it to anyone. It is not how the various movies and t.v. programs portray, life aint a bed of roses!

American county jail is boring but survivable. No smoking though. That was harsh. Everyone is in there for the most pathetic stuff that its almost laugable. I was only there for 3 days.

I guess thats what you get for defending yourself from an attack by racist hillbillies who are related to the cops in Texan bars. Back home in the UK it would have been handled very differently and more sensibly by the cops as they are a lot more accountable than their american counterparts.

its not great that's for sure i have been in 5 different county jails, if you are a smoker you are screwed that's a fact people are not nice and they are not your friends just remember that. so a serious answer would be do everything in your power not to go to jail.

It depends what you are in for, and which prison,
my husband was a prison guard for 25 years, seen all kinds even the hard knocks break down. the weak ones make better prisoners and do time better than the supposedly hard knocks.if you are in or been sentenced put this in mind,
done the crime do the time. don't whine about it. its not easy for anyone my husband said time is what they make it, make it hard it will be. and your early release depends on them 3 no's and you stay in for your time,

My mum used to be a prison guard and she told me that life in prison is strict. The prisoners get searched before they can go outside and there are bell schedules. They also get to grow their own food.

i haven't experienced it but it may be very dangerous, because you may encounter with some murderers that may hurt you.
also it annoys everyone because you cant see your friends and or your family, plus you can't have a good food, lavatory, clothing , entertainment, sex, security, hygiene and much more
