Blackness is the deep and strong roots from which we came. Blackness is the heart.. soul.. and very being of the Black man. We came from kings and queens and it shows in our walk... our talk... and our cultural heritage. Why else is everyone else trying to be like us? Blackness is Miles Davis' Bitches Brew... The Alvin Ailey Dancers... Malcolm X... Harry Belefonte and all our ancestors. The true meaning of Blackness is the integrity and strength of the shoulders we stand on... and all the bullshit they endured to include all that was taken from them... in spite of what white American has tried to remove from our history... still we rise. It is the honor that comes from always believing that we were inferior.
Bill Clinton is not Black nor will he ever be. This came from a statement from some Black woman politician where she stated," Bill Clinton is the blackest president we have ever had." Who knows why she fixed her mouth to say it... but she still put it out in the universe.
Mariah Carey... If memory serves me correctly.. her father is from the Bahamas or some other island. Her mother is white. She claims to be Black when it is convienient for her. This is usually when money is involved. I must hand it to her... at least SHE did support Oprah's Leadership School in South Africa. Good girl. So you see.. Blackness does have to do with skin color. White people no matter how hard they try and how much they want to be us... will never be Black. EVER. We are beautiful people of the Earth who were here in the beginning and will be here til the end. Blackness is drive and ambition.

Mariah's father is Black. As for Bill Clinton, he had a soulful compassion about him. He also knew how to play the game, i.e., appearances on Arsenio hall and MTV playing the sax, mingling in the streets with everyday folks, even moving his office to Harlem. I agree Hillary is trying to capitalize on her husband's soulfulness, but she is far whiter than Bill. to answer your question though, I think that soul transcends racial bounderies, not blackness!

Although she doesn't look it, Mariah Carey is ethnically black. As for Bill Clinton, that has been a huge question on my mind for years. And now Hilary is trying to capitalize on that too. Why are they allowed to get away with that?

Maybe it is the culture that surrounds Black people. Like you mention soul might be part of it. Black people are just known to be soulful people and I guess people assimilate that with others that may be soulful as well.
