Alyx? I like it and think it is cute...how about Alyson(Ally) or Aubry spelled Awbrie? I also need some alternate spellings for Eric and if you have any other alternate spellings for these names (besides the ususal ones) I will appreciate it.

My name is Rachel and it is spelled a VERY untraditional way, and I don't hate it, in fact, lately I have grown to love it. Even though I must correct people sometimes, I still like my name and I like having a unique spelling, by the way is isn't spelled R-A-C-H-E-L it is very different.

I think if it's a girl, then Alyx would be adorable. Are you thinking along the lines of Alyxandria or Alyxandra? I like Alyson with a 'Y' , I think it is very elegant. But I'd perfer it will 2 'L's...Allyson. I don't like Awbrie, It's just not cute, but Aubree or Aubrie are different ways of spelling that name, but they are just cute. And I went to school with a kid, and he spelled his name Arik, or you could do it with a 'C' Aric, or both Arick.

I also like unusual spellings of names. Mine is Heather, and it is very traditional. But my son is Braedyn Glen Kyall. I actually asked my sister, who's name is spelled differently, and she said that she liked the unique spelling because it made her feel special.

Hope this helps and congradulations!

Never spell "Aubrey" as "Awbrie"...It looks tacky and just ugly.
Aubree, Aubri, Aubrie

Alyson, Alison, Alysson

Alyx is okay if you're trying for a learning disability.

Erik is the only other way that I know of to spell Eric.

Well, if Alex is going to be used for a boy, I suggest regular ol' Alex. But if it is for a girl, I'd suggest Alix. With an "i". My friend's nickname is Alix.

For "Alyson", I'd honestly rather stick with Allison or Alison. Just my opinion.

I don't really care for Aubry. But I'd spell it Aubry. MAYBE Aubrie.

For the name Eric...well, I don't know any Erics but I >do< know an Erick. With a "ck" at the end.

Good luck, dear.

Straight on traditional is the best thing for the child.
If you give your child a complicated very untraditional name, they will go through life with everyone always asking "how do I spell that" or they will automatically write it down the traditional way, and the child will always have to correct them, and eventually they will not like their name.
My name is one in which the first letter can be one of two letters, and it also is usually a nickname for a more formal name.

My entire life, since I was a child, it was always very annoying when I would give my name, and people would say "no dear, not your nickname, your full name". I have always desperately wished that I had the formal name.

At birth, it may seem "cute" to have something "different" from everyone else, but it does get complicated throughout life.

I was going to name my son the scandinavian spelling of his first name, but decided against it, so that he wouldn't have to go through it. To this day, he's glad of that...he actually said "you were going to name me what???"

As for the names Allison is standard, but Eric and Erik are very nice.

Enjoy your baby!

I like Alex spelled "Alex". I do like that spelling of Alyson...and I don't like Awbrie. I don't think it looks cute...but Aubrie or Aubree is cute.Eric can be spelled Eric, Erik, Erick...or variations of Eryc, but I think that looks really girly for a boy. Just my opinion though...I like the aim for originality though!

Don't listen to this people trying to discourage you about naming YOUR child and spelling it nontraditionally. It's your child, name it what you like. ANY name has it's potential for being made fun of. I like Alyx, I think it's cute. I know that you can spell Eric > Erik. Maybe Errick or something. Good luck. :)

alyx and awbrie are just awful, i'm sorry. i can just imagine sitting in class in college when the teacher is calling roll, how embarrassing must it be if you have a weird spelling for a name?

pick a unique NAME (and when i say unique i mean different, not ugly), not a unique spelling.

For a boy or girl? If you are going to go with Alex, spell it Alex (don't care for the name personally). Alyson is ok, Awbrie- no... Erik
