I am an ob/gyn and can help you with this question....
First of all, are your periods regular, every 28 or 30 days? If so, by your last menstrual period, you should be about 8 weeks along. Which means --- they should have seen a fetal pole on this ultrasound. And since they didn't, it very likely is a miscarriage. But to be 100% sure, you should have a repeat ultrasound in 1-2 weeks.
If your periods are irregular, such every 7 or 8 weeks, then you are probably just very early pregnant and a repeat ultrasound in 1-2 weeks will show the baby.
Also, do you know about any abnormalities in your uterus? The pregnancy was seen over on the right side of your uterus, instead of in the center. Sometimes, this doesn't mean anything. But sometimes, it means that you have a septum at the top of the uterus which is a little wall that juts down and divides the uterine cavity. There is no good way to know for sure until after you deliver, but usually, a septum does not cause any problems. Rarely, if it's big enough, it prevents the baby from turning around in the last trimester, and you end up with a breech baby that needs a C-section.
So in conclusion, I don't know for sure whether it's a miscarriage. Sometimes, getting a blood test called a B-hcg which measures your pregnancy hormone can be very helpful. But definitely, get another ultrasound in 1 or 2 weeks and that should clarify the situation for sure.
Best of luck....

I really hope not. I'm so sorry. I know this is scary and waiting to find out is going to seem like forever. I think one of the suggested tests is a quantitative hcg- counting the human growth hormone- to see if there is enough there to mean that she isn't miscarrying. The other I think is another ultrasound. It may not mean anything- they might just be being cautious.
Everything might be fine.
I had a miscarriage and got pregnant again as soon as they would let me (3 months). That pregnancy went fantastically, and the child is the sweetest, smartest little charmer on the planet.
Good luck.

Your report said features are suggestive of an intrauterine gestation--which means fetus of 5.1 weeks. Don't worry about a fetal pole.

Sonograms are NOT definitive at this early stage. Don't give up hope yet, there's still time for development to take place.

Did you bleed at all? Usually you will know if you miscarry.
