Well, if you look at the topography of the region, there are mountains in Sudan, where majority of the Nile starts from. Since water goes from up to down, the Nile flows downward, north on the map, into the Mediterranean Sea.

You're confusing horizontal directions with altitude. Water always flows downward in the direction of gravity's pull. In the Nile's case, the mountains happen to be to the south, in Sudan, and downhill is towards the north. The amazon flows north too, at some points. Rivers start at the top of mountains and flow down towards the points of lowest elevation. It has nothing to do with compass directions.

Why not? North and south don't have the attribute of being up and down. The Nile flows north because that is the gradient of the water from it sources to the delta.

You got that one wrong, water flow downward due to the force of gravity. You should have asked "Why does the Nile River flow downward toward the North?" The answer is because gravity pulls water to its lowest potential, which is toward sea level.

because rivers flow towards lower altitude. the mediterranean sea is at sea level while the southern sources of the nile is at a higher altitude, that is why the nile river flows northward.

in determining the direction of river flow, we look at altitude changes (using a contour map if you like) rather than north, east, south or west.
