My laptop makes my thighs really hot. Can this be hazardous to my health? If you are not supposed to keep them on your lap, why are they called laptops anyway?

Not really harmful to you, but if your laptop has venting ports on the bottom (some Toshiba's do) you could run into problems. They sell a cooling pad designed to sit on your lap (or any other surface) that helps to keep the bottom of the laptop cool.

Laptops do run hot and may cause burns. Also by resting it on clothes it cuts down the airflow to the laptop and could cause it to overheat. The air vents on laptops are on th bottom of the machine.
You should get a mini table that fits on your lap and holds the computer.

well for one, you can get bruised from all that heat from the laptop.
I am sure when the manufacturers called them 'laptop', it was to differentiate them from the desktop, which you had to keep on the desk.

they are called laptops because they are so portable and thats where most people will set it to work on it. it blocks the vents on it though causing it to run hotter which will wear it out sooner.
check out chill pads on e-bay. I have one and it is awesome and was cheap too.

sorry to say this is true if ur laptop is connected to internet it produces some harmfull radiations according to science. which effects ur delicate parts which is between ur legs so it is better now to keep ur laptop in ur lap.

It won't hurt you, but I'd use a table or something.
Plus, doesn't it hurt your neck using it on your lap.
