Hi there,
O hunny, it will be ok. First, talk to your doctor. I am taking Zoloft and breastfeeding. I know that that one is safe. However, only your doctor can tell you what is safe for you.
I've been there.
If you need to chat, IM me!! Stay strong girl! YOu can get through this, and YOU DO NOT NEED TO STOP BREASTFEEDING!

I have had to be on an antidepressant since I was a teenager. I have been on Effexor XR 150 mg for a couple years. The doctor said it was fine for my baby. I know some people try to talk you out of taking the medication, but some people do need it. If it saves your family and makes you able to enjoy life again, its worth it.

It sounds like you are having the typical so called "baby blues" I had that with both of my children. It is best that you discuss with your doctor what kind of anti-depressant you should be taking. Don't feel bad, many women suffer the same thing. I remember the days where it felt like I was useless and had nothing to look forward to, except my children's smiles. If nothing else, there are support networks in many locations of new moms that discuss these types of things. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Why is it that you want drugs and not counseling first? At least figure out why your life is "spiriling out of control",there must be a reason. Is it post pardum or something else? See a good counselor to talk over what is going on, meds are only if you are suicidal or homicidal or have a specific mental disorder requiring meds to keep you stable. There is no such thing as a "safe" antidepressant... for you or the baby.

You should not take any anti-depressant while breast feeding, you may want to consider formula feeding so you can take the meds you feel you need.
