He just thought it was time to move on, and leave while he was at the top, and still healthy. Pretty much the same reason Barry Sanders left, they were losing pasion for the game, and didn't want to stay to long (like Favre or Rice)

There were many interviews asking Tiki why he was retiring. The answer was always the same. He wants to leave now while hes healthy. He would then give examples of players from previous years in the NFL players who arent even out of their 40's and could barely make it down a hallway without a can or walker, hunched over in pain, taking more pain pills every day than you can imagine. He says that he wants to live the rest of his life in a healthy way and not have to look at a set of stairs as an impassible barrier. Tiki didnt put much emphasis on what he would do afterwards (he probably already knew that with his great speaking ability he would be takin on by espn or cbs without any questions)

I would like to add that he did mention several times that he hopes he got all the football out of his system, he doesnt want to end up 2 or 3 years down the road wishing he had stayed in the league a year or two longer.

He has said that there are a number of reasons he's retiring. First, he wants to get out of football while he is still healthy. Tiki said that there are days he gets out of bed and his body feels battered, and he wants to get out before playing causes him serious damage later in life. Believe it or not, even though he seemed to be getting better, he clamied to have lost a step.

Second, he wants to get into broadcasting. He is very talented, and now that he is going to NBC, he will also fill in on The Today Show! He will be a great broadcaster for many years, and in things other than sports.

Also, many Giant fans want Tiki to keep playing and building up his career stats, as he likely would have hit 12,000 yards and gone well over 600 catches had he played on more year. Tiki said that he is not about stats, and that they don't mean that much to him.

The same reason Barry Sanders retired early. If you've ever played football you know it beats the hell out of you every week. Not only that why be remembered like I will always remember Emmit Smith, old, and only playing to get a record. I think he is doing the right thing by going out while he is still good, and while he can still walk without a limp.

he left for a few reasons one the Rb position takes a toll on a persons body and not many rbs who get out after his age remain healthy, another is production in the NFL by rbs take a significant dive after 30 and the biggest reason all that money hes getting from NBC to be a football annalist

Because he's a smart man.If you could retire from your job after just ten years and be financially fit for life would you ?Not to mention his health and time, then there is more time to spend with his family also. Football owes him nothing and he owes football nothing. The next game he plays will be with his kids.

I agree that he is a bearded clam....and a quitter just like Barry "you'd quit too if you were on the lions" Sanders. Maybe if these sissy's didnt get paid so much they wouldn't bail out on their teams WAY before they have to. Top of game...copout, MIGHT not walk when their older...copout, just scared little quitters, thats why!
