First you have to understand that there are basically two types of runners. There are "Downhill" runners and there are "Upright" runners.

Downhill runners keep their shoulders low and forward, in front of their bodies. They usually use them to plow through opponents by getting their center of gravity lower than the opposition's. A shifty downhill runner would use his shoulders being forward to keep his momentum up while he changed direction, and avoid direct hits, making the opponent attempt to make an arm tackle.

An upright runner takes a tall running stance, as you would see someone running in a marathon. Their shoulders are nearly perpendicular to the ground. This will sometimes let the runner sho off fabulous speed, but since so much of their body is left prone to attack, they are very susceptible to injury. A good example of an upright runner is Steven Jackson.

Chris Brown from the Ttans is a upright runner,\.It means that the runner doesnt drophis shoulder and runs in a 40 stance..basicaly they stand tall like Brandon Jacobs

Eric Dickerson was a true upright running back. Eddie George may be another. When they run, they appear to be standing tall.

the jerome bettis and duce staley kind of running pounding the ball for three to four yards and making it seem more like the running back is tackling the defense.

I hope he goes into Hall of Fame cuz now he has one and his number is officially retired with the Steelers...
