I am 40 weeks pregnant with baby #2. My first was a normal delivery except I didn't dilate until my water broke because I have a high uterus and extra fluid. This meant the baby pressure was never there to help me progress when I contracted. ( he was 10 days late) I had been 2cm for almost five weeks and contractions had no effect until my water was broken.

Now, with this one, I am only at 1cm and my doctor says that I am too high up to break my water and they want to induce me with pitocin on Monday. This makes me nervous because contractions didn't help me dilate at all with the first one. What If I let them do this and all it does it cause pain to me and possible distress to the baby and I don't budge enough for my water to be broken?........... Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I don' t want a c-section and my doc knows about my first, but just says..... " every pregnancy is different" , like I don't know what I am talking about with my own body.
If I haven't dilated by the time I check in, do I tell them to stuff it and go home?

I have 4 boys from 3 pregnancies. Every single one of them I got to 2cm and quit there. I had regular contractions for weeks and I never dilated anymore. In 2 pregnancies once they broke my water everything came as it should with a little help of pitocin on pregnancy 2. The third pregnancy same thing, but when my water broke 12 hrs passed with nothing but painful contractions from the pitocin. Baby was breech...I had to have a C-section.
I'd go in and let them induce you. You have to trust in your doctor to make the right decisions at the right time.

With my first baby, was almost the same, thou before the labor on that day i went to the park and walk for about 4 or 5 hours( having a picnic) then later that night, i was/we were on the mood( intimacy) that cause labor time, though the baby still very high, the doctor induce the labor with pitocin. Hate it it, but it sure was worth it. Mostly there's a chance if you try something, Don't be to worry or nervous that may be the cause of not dilating.Good Luck.

The exact thing happened to me with my first and i had a 16 hour labour. I was so scared with my second when the doc told me i was to be induced but it was such a great birth! After he gave me the pitocin, my contractions started 50 mins later and were really strong... i thought i had ages yet till the doc told me i was fully dilated!! My water broke just as i started pushing my baby out and she was born just 1 hour from the begining of my contractions!
I hope this helps you and good luck!

HEY, well even though you know your body, your doctor knows whats best for the baby. You should trust your doctor, otherwise, you would of been switched. I had my appendix out when I was 14 weeks pregnant and have this huge scar on my right side because they had to slice the side of me to not hurt the baby. After that healing process, I did NOT want a c-section, I was horrified to have to go through that pain again. But after being induced, having my water break and mucous plug falling out, I still never dialated pass 2 cm...the doctor had to do an c-section because she was worried that they baby can poop inside the uterus (which is not good) or other worries. My baby heart beat never dropped or anything, but to have the proper precautions I had to TRUST what my doctor said.

I was induce at 40 weeks and when they give me the pitocin, I only felt a little pain. Most of the pain hit when my water broke. The baby was fine, But he didn't want to come down so they ended do a c-section. I hope all goes well

i have been there and don't take the pitcin all it did for me was made me be in pain for three day ever two min i was having a contraction and after the third day and i was only dilated to a 2 they gave me a epidural so for three days i was in a lot of pain that i should not have been threw if he had only broke my water. When they gave me the epidural and i got relaxed and they broke my water and i got about 3 hours of sleep that i had not gotten in three day i was dilated to a ten. i was dilated to a 10 for 15 hours and my son so so big for my body that they had two cut me all the way down there and use a suction cup to get him out. Later i was talking to my sister who is a nurse and she said to me that the only time you use pitocin is when your water is broke to help your body dilate but if it is not don't use pitocin it will not help trust me

You know your body better than anyone.I believe that the second time around is easier than the first. But there is no way of knowing for sure. What ever you feel comfortable doing than you should do it.Are you comfortable being induced with pitocin or not .Just relax.Try your best not to think about anything going wrong. You should just know in your heart that you have a gift that is about to be given to you and you need to relax and let it come to you.Congratulations on your new bundle of joy.Keep your chin up everything will be just fine.

Everyone thinks I'm crazy for suggesting this, but have you thought about trying acupuncture? There are acupuncturists that specialize in fertility and pregnancy, and many of them are skilled in inducing labor more naturally. A co-worker of mine went to one when her doctor threatened to induce, and it took two treatments to put her into labor.

I am an acupuncture advocate as that is what helped me get pregnant after 18 months of infertility. I plan to see my acupuncturist to help dilate my cervix and start labor naturally once the time comes. She assured me that she can help me out with that. Just an idea if you are open to it...

Not to be mean because I feel for ya! My 1st pregnancy was great 21hrs of labor though. My 2nd one Iwas induced woo 5 hrs of labor. To be honest I would have rather went through 21 hrs than be induced. That is only my opinion though. I wish you the very best & good luck!

You can say no, But this time around you know what to expect and that makes it easier.

Best Wishes

My first was a nighmare delivery -3 hours of pushing after they broke my water. Normal dialateing
My second was -two good pushes after they broke my water. Dialated on my own.
My third -needed to be induced after my water broke. then one good push.
