Definitely it was because of the poor performance by Batsmen. I think they don't know how to find gaps in the field and take singles effectively. Chasing a score of 255 wasn't a Himalayan task for the Indian batting line up. When you are chasing a score of 250 what was necessary to go for some attacking shots, especially by Saurav and Uthappa.
Anyhow everything has finished now and what I can understand from the Indian performance is that, Indian Cricket team need at least 5 players like Kapil Dev. Next, India Cricket Control Board has to take decision in making good sporting wickets similar to other cricketing nations. India is second in population, definitely we can produce world's best players if we are making some changes in domestic cricket.

The main reason of Indian failure is due to the presence of a lot of oldies (Sourav, Sachin, Dravid, Agarkar etc). In other words, there are no promising youngsters to replace them. Chappel did his best. He tried to find these promising players out. We expected too much from our players most of whom are past their glory. Market force made cricket a world business. This performance will help cricket to take its right place as a sport. I personally want cricket with hype.

1. the team's body language was doubtful
2. want to win and willingness to win are two different aspects
3. it is time to say thanks to sachin, ganguly,anil kumley,sehwag from odi's
4. mently weak team once again proved by team india
5.india wins only when the opposite team is loosing because of their own fault. ( most of the times)
6.now experience in the game is not playing a vital role it is fitness in terms of quick decision making and always up or a bit ahead of oppostion's planning

I will not put our own team more upset.
The reason that India lost against Sri Lanka was They are any way a beeter team than India.
But Indian Cricket is not over. they will come back.
