It depends on what you are trying to do, pitch or play the field.

Long toss is good for all positions as long as you do your normal stretches before hand. It will work well to strengthen your shoulder. Just make sure you use a normal throwing motion (good form) otherwise you are just going to hurt yourself.

One thing that is really overlooked is the wrist snap at the release point of any throw (pitching or at a position). Strengthen your wrist with a rubber ball (not a Nerf-style) by squeeezing it hundreds of times a day. There are also spring-style hand grips that can do the same thing, but the rubber ball is so quiet you can even use it in class.

Be careful of throwing too much, the human arm is not designed for the overhand throwing motion. Remember that while you can make some improvements during the baseball season (especially if you are a still-growing teenager) the best time for building strength is in the off-season. Don't work your arm so hard that you get hurt and cannot play at all.

Good Luck!

I am a pitcher and if thats the kind of arm strengthening your referring to then what you need to do is throw 100 pitches as hard as you can every day for about 2 months after a while you will even begin to notice the change in velocity.

Long toss and weightlifting.

Don't listen to the guy that throws 100 balls as hard as he can everyday for 2 months.

Play long toss after warming up with short toss everyday for 30 minutes to an hour resting your arm every third day. Make sure to ice your arm after playing. Also make sure you stretch before playing catch because it can also lenthen you muscles adding arm strength and can help deter injury.

A good friend of mine who briefly pitched for the Detroit Tigers told me that if you take a bucket of balls (or two buckets of balls)and throw from foul pole to foul pole on a bee line two or three times a week you can increase your fastball ten miles an hour. I wish I knew that when i picthed. he said it usually takes 4-6 months to achieve the greater arm strength. His senior high scholl era was under 1 and he led the local team to a state championship in Ohio.
