McAfee takes up a lot of resources to run....but it will run faster if you turn off some of your windows services that always run in the background and slows processes down....Windows keeps getting bigger and bigger over the years and I ran across a question like this one recently and someone else suggested to google up "slow computer" and I did that and I found a link that I went to and found a really informative site that told me how to disable or set some unnecessary autorun files in windows to manual only (programs that are only necessary if you're on a network and so forth...) Go ahead and try this and see if it helps....it should help a great deal to get your system it top peak performance, it did mine, and believe me, having a 2.6G processor slow down after only a year really isn't funny....or even almost 3G of memory for that matter....just click on the link below and you'll see what I'm talking about....trust me, My machine is now running like new again and I'm glad!! I know you'll be glad you saw this, it really worked to take control of what you don't need windows to run all the time...after you make these changes, you have to reboot.... and then disregard a message that comes up about the changes you made in the services directory, just check the box and the message will never come back up....(You DO NOT have to download any software, just scroll to bottom of page to "notes" and follow the instructions before attempting to turn anything off or resetting them)...this works like a charm and easy to follow.

It probably is RAM. It is what keeps the computer running fast. It could also be a slow harddrive. It is also a sign of an old computer. (Although I don't expect that to be an old computer.) Try Spybot Search & Destroy it could help. You may also want to remove unneeded installed programs.

You might have to much on it. The same thing happened to my dad's labtop. I would put some of the stuff on a backup disk. That should free up some space on the labtop and help it work faster.
