How can I improve my jumping. I'm doing squats right now, but are their any other exercises I can do??? Also, my friends told me working on my bench press would help me improve my blocking, so i've been working on it, and have improved a lot, but what exactly does the bench press do for you??

Bench pressing has much the same motion as blocking, as you are using your entire upper body (esp. chest) to extend your arms to ward off defenders. This will help.

As far as the vertical. Plyometrics are key. Try doing weighted step ups, power cleans, and lunges. Also, strengthen your calves. Most of all, practice, practice, practice. The only true way to improve any aspect of your game is to work on it relentlessly. Best of Luck.

Vertical and broad jumps are strictly explosiveness based. So doing jump rope daily and working on your lower body will help out with that. Just don't skip out on doing cleans when your lifting, but you have to do them right, since that'll help the most.

As for the bench press improving your blocking. There is no way that will happen. I'm probably going to crush your mind just by saying this but its all mental. If you think you doing better, you'll do better. If you think your doing worse, you'll get worse. Bench just increases you upper body strength, but it won't help if you don't already know how to block.
