Is there a way to hook up a DVD Player to my computer monitor? Or, is there software I can buy/download that will allow my computer to play DVDs? My computer only has a CD-Rom drive.

Thanks, Sara

EDIT: Thank you all so much for your advice. I think I'm gonna try the software option.

wldcts72, Thank you so much for the Cyberlink PowerDVD7 info. I found it really cheap on Amazon so I think this is my best bet right now.

It works if you just have a CD-ROM drive, right?

Again, thank you all so so much!

a) Connecting... Depends on the output ports of the DVD player, and the input ports of your monitor. In general, the answer is no, as most monitors only have DVI or VGA in, and most DVD players would have S-video / composite / component out. Some of the most advanced DVD players have HDMI, but DVI/VGA out on consumer DVD players is almost unheard-of.

b) You will need a DVD drive to read DVD's. However, DVD drives (or even DVD burners) are cheap, well under $100 I think I got my last one at Best Buy for $70 w/ tax. The drive should come with DVD playing software.

Any computer DVD player that is not sold as bulk comes with player software. Just remove your CD player, use the same connections for a new DVD player, install the software and your party is on.

My first advice would be just to get a DVD-ROM (or burner) for your pc, should cost less than $50 and it really isnt hard to install. The other option is to get one of those tv tuner boxes that let you watch tv on your monitor, then just connect the dvd player to it

depends on what types of outputs your dvd player has and what kind of inputs your monitor has. if both have hdmi or dvi then yes.
