I moved my pond last year and after a few months the liner started moving to the top of the water from ground water. Do I need the liner, put holes in it for the ground water to flow, what?

Was it from the ground water or was it from an air pocket?

you don't have a gravel bottom? Most ponds have either large stones or river gravel across the bottom. This is just more for the fish than any other reason. It also helps to keep the liner from "floating". Add river gravel or large stones rocks to the bottom. I would stay away from sand.

I have smooth river gravel in most of my outside ponds, even the preformed ones. This will help

I have a 350 gallon man made fish pond and do not have this problem. However, I accidentally put holes in it and mud poured into the pond from the ground making it murky. Do not put holes in the liner. The water should hold the liner down. If the pond is large enough, you do not need a liner. There are some great web sites with pond information. Good luck.

The liner shouldn't float because of ground water(the water on top is just as heavy as the water underneath). Could something under the liner be decaying and creating some sort of gas? Maybe it's them pesky Artesians. The stepping stone idea should work, but look for smooth rocks that won't cut the liner.

Depending on the size, you could place a few stones on the bottom or purchase a formed rigid pond liner.
