I think you'd get in trouble for that one. Free speech involves protection when speaking out against the government, not against an actor/director. Your school might have a policy against it and Gibson might try to sue. You never know.
I don't like Mel Gibson either. I haven't liked him ever since he made the Passion of the Christ. He used to act sane, but after that movie, he acts like a lunatic. But I wouldn't go around wearing a T-shirt that says "f*ck Mel Gibson." It would only serve to add to his ego/persecution complex.
You might want to ask your school's administrators if such a T-shirt would be acceptable there. They have the final say in matters such as these.

As long as what the shirt says falls within the realm of satire, you're safe. Public personalities such as celebrities and politicians have less rights when it comes to libel than regular citizens.
For instance, a friend of mine has a line of T-shirts calling Mel Gibson a schmuck. That's acceptable (legally speaking). But printing a shirt saying Mel Gibson is a pedophile might get you in trouble.

At Cal State, I doubt if anyone would even notice; however, why don't you just make a shirt that says, " I don't like Mel Gibson"?

I'm all for making fun of Mel Gibson. I hate him as well. But there are probably better ways to go about it. There must be something a little more subtle and clever than just f**k mel gibson.

A student ? Really ? And I thought liberals worship Hollywood .. Hillary says "we have too much free speech" ...so you better check with madame ..but you can bet there will be smooth sailing when she finds out you don't like Mel Gibson ; just as long as it's not Fidel ; Hugo ; Osama , or Kim Jong .

Doesn't make you look very original or intelligent, hon. People are more moved by intelligent discussion, not abusive language. At best, you're just stooping to the same level that you are trying to protest against. There are other ways.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. So be it.
I believe freedom of speech is still in our constitution….. however there are those people with some authority that could care less what the constitution says. Its sad.

obsence language is not a protected speech so a case could be brought against you for that shirt. you could always claim it is a politial statement--a protected speech--and at least have a chance.
