I support the Industry 100%!!! My mo-to goes like this:
I watched on You-tube (trailers,episodes,music videos ect...),
I go to the blogs and seek out there opinion and then I decided which shows our movies are my favorite and Ill go and buy them. Very simple...Very legal, and besides I worked before on production so I know is hard work to make this stuff and has a lot of collaboration...so I like to contribute and be fair.

1) American companies takes too long for DVD to come out. I trust fansubs more than American companies translation. If I really really really really love the series, I buy it.
2) Again, they take too long to come out, especially when Japan is on ch 257 and you're up with them, and America's on ch 2 and the volume comes out every 5.6 months. Again, I don't trust American companies translation. If I really really really really love the series, I buy it.
3) It's not bootleg, it's the official Hong Kong version. Subtitles are bad because it has been translated from Japanese to Chinese to English. Quality of the video is the same, but quality of subs are not. It takes toooooo long for the series to come out in the US, and have you look at the price of a box set with vol 1 these days?! (I've only brought three series HK edition, two had the American dubbed and the other didn't, and I didn't think it was that bad)
Overall, fansubs are the way to go. I think fans subbing for fans has more meaning and keeps the originality of the anime then American company subs. Actually, American company subs are not subs at all, it's DUBTITLES!! I hate dubtitles. I don't care for an American dub. I completely hate American dubs! The character's respect for each other is not there! Have you heard what they did to Naruto..."BELIEVE IT!" Bleh, makes me want to throw up. I wouldn't mind supporting them if they actually did something right!
Not all anime and manga make it out of Japan, which is why fansubs and scanlation are the way to go. An example of why scanlation is better is in #2. As I've told you before, I trust the fans scanlation and sub groups more than companies. Have you seen some of the translation? Leaving of "-kun," "-chan," "-sama," etc is not 100% authentic manga.
Enough of me chattering. I've made my case.

Honestly, I don't support the industry. Before I found out about scanlations and fansubs I would go to barnes and nobles and read. I never bought anything.
1. a. I only dl Bleach and watch it on youtube occasionally. I don't get cable so I can't watch it on t.v. and it takes way to long. (i am THINKING about buying the DVDs but only thinking) Actually,I don't watch anime all that often. Though I do check out Miyazaki's films from the library, I felt a bit bad dling his stuff.
2. a. I download lots of manga (only have 5 licensed out of what 200 series on my computer) I did buy 2 manwha and 1 manga but that's because I had a gift card.
3. I don't buy anything why would I buy a bootleg when I can dl it and burn it on a dvd myself. -_- Though if I ever go to HK i'll buy some because of their lax laws.
I would love to support the industry but, I am cheap. VERY cheap always have been. I don't spend money, I went clothes shoping for the first time in about 3 years. I keep my money in the bank and use it on my brothers or charity. Darfur orphans and cancer patients sorta win out against anime in opinion.
Anyway, if I ever do start buying the legal products it will most likely only be for BLEACH. -_-

i don't download anything i am SO not computer Internet compatible. i buy all of my anime from suncoast, best buy or walmart so i am figuring that they are not bootleg copy's but the real thing. although, i don't buy alot.
i have all of the Miyazake movies i can find, Inushaya box sets of season 1 and 2 some episodes of seasons 3 and 4 all of Last Exile and a few others. all bought from suncoast, best buy, walmart or Frys. so i guess i can say i am supporting the industry. not sure if its a good or bad thing but i love anime and i am useless with a computer.

2. A- the mangas releases in North America tend to be very slow or HEAVILY MODIFIED. subs are always different, blood sometimes taken away, gay sexuality are censored.

There are some animes that are really good, that are just being released in Japan on tv, or haven't come over yet, or might never be released in NA. That is why I watch fansubs. I don't use youtube for anime, by the way.

I don't download animes which are already released in America. I buy them because quality is still best in original than downloads. I like quality in animes because I want to enjoy and savor the art. No fuzzy colors for me. I like 'em sharp!
I only download manga but if I like them enough and they happen to be released in America, I buy the original.
You have to realize though that the animes and manga that reach America are just a drop in the bucket compared to what they have in Japan. Many really, really good animes have not reached our shores. It's a pity. Fans naturally would want to get their hands on them.

B for the first two. I bought a bootleg for my ex-boyfriend once before I was aware of what they were. I have since replaced those with a legit copy and not bought any more.

I live in a country were manga and anime is not so popular yet so my series aren't on tv, translated or not. and the manga is in the wrong language and at the very beginning. and buying it... you have to find a place to buy it first. so they don't always give you much choice.
