I would like to go on a diet and I would like to stop smoking...I don't want to take any pills or anything. I've actually wanted to do these things for a little over a year now, I get to the point where I'm like ok lets do this and it might last for a day and then I'm over it. how can I make myself not eat so much food and how can I just say no to smoking, I have no will power and I have good reasons to lose weight and everything, It just seems like I cant succeed.

Just start small and go from there. Give up second helpings first, then downsize your portions, etc. One little step at a time will get you there.

For the smoking, just go for one less cig each day, then two or three weeks later, one less than that, and so on until you've weaned yourself off or mostly off.

This change for the better in your life is going to take more than wishing, it needs a concentrated decision and action.

Start off by deciding once and for all to do it - no wishing, no hoping, just absolute confidence that you will see this through to the end. Believe me, you won't even begin to know the power and satisfaction that your success will bring.

What short term gratifications will you have to give up? Smoking and bad eating. They bring you instant pleasure, but not enjoyment, not self-esteem, not health and not a happy future. All good things come from a little sacrifice - so go to it.

Some quick tips: Get a friend or group, or family to support you and be there when you need them. Write out the benefits of your new you - then read them, shout them everyday. Plan and get ready things to do with your hands and yourself, instead of smoking and over eating. Look up new hobbies, skills and what sort of exercising you can take up.

Best advice I can give you is get someone else to diet and/or quit smoking with you. Support goes a long, long way. My husband is dieting with me and the support (and competition) has definitely played a major role in our success.
