about two weeks ago for two nights I had sat on a real hard chair for a couple hours each night.

about 2 days later. The top part of my but started hurting like it was a bruised or something. Its usually hurts when I go upstairs or get up or sit down. basically any kind of bending.

But my question is. is this something to worry about? don't bruises usually go away after a couple days? thanks if anybody knows.

Once I smacked my butt on a shelf and it hurt for a really long time, several weeks. It's probably a bruise on your tailbone, and you shouldn't worry about it. Maybe use a cushion :)

I think that you may have bruised your tailbone or maybe the way you sat in this chair you could have also bruised or put your muscles in a strain. Try soaking in a tub of warm water and then putting some of lotion of the spot. I think that this will help you.

Probably the tail bone is bruised, or you hurt the sciatica nerver.

I fell down the stairs and hurt my tailbone in September '06 and it is still bothering me.
I also hurt my sciatic and it was hurting around the are you described too.
Ask your doctor about these, and ask to get x rays

Although Your discomfort seems to be in your buttock, this pain distribution can often indicate "sciatica".
This is distributed over the sciatic nerve from compression of this nerve, in the low back, usually by a "disc" that cushions the individual vertebra (back bones)....."a herniated disc".
This certainly warrants medical attention but can be a challenge to treat, if this is the case.
In the mean-while, avoid strenuous bending and lifting.
An O.T.C anti-inflammatory can be helpful if you can take them safely. Using cold packs to your low back for 72 hours and then heat, as it seems to help you.
This doesn't preclude the possibility that you may have some local muscle irritation/injury.....see what you health care provider finds on examination.
Take care.

this has happened to me. apparantly you can bruise your "butt bone" as my mom would say it hurts for a few days and then should go away. this happened to me when i was learning to snowboard, i got off the lift and boom right down on ICE. everytime i feel after that it hurt so bad. it went away in a couple days, its like bruising your knee and you have to be kneeling for something

Yep, sounds like a very sore tailbone to me. Mine is well padded for the sole purpose of avoiding such an injury!
You'll be fine. Don't sit in that chair again, hon!
