Some details... In the movie a Knight's Tale, actor Paul Bettany plays the part of Geoffrey Chaucer. He introduces Sir William Thatcher at all of the lancing events. I'm just wondering historically what was the name of this profession?

The Herald.

These are the people that were announcers and had to yell really loud to make up for the fortunate lack of megaphones in the middle ages : )
