The only thing accurate about that movie is the ship sank. It's nice little story but the crew on that ship would have never let a third class Irish bum anywhere near the first class quarters. That scene where he walked right into the Grand Stairway with a smile from the door man was exactly the opposite as to how it would have happened. How it would have happened is he would have been taken down the "Scotland Hallway" and given the boots.

I don't know if the love story is true, but the characters are fictional. however there was a crew member or passenger on the actual titanic who had the same initials as Jack Dawson, JD. It was purely coincidence though, the production team didn't know about it until the script was already finalized. I had a little mini-obsession about the movie just 2 days ago. wow!

In the real world of 1912 , rose & jack would never have interacted socially. They would have both known their respective places in the social fabric of their time and they wouldn't have crossed the line. They certainley never would have had sex with each other.
Though The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitgerald was wriiten 13 years after the Titanic sunk , it does portray Rose's world with a fairly good degree of accuracy.

On the DVD they show a gravestone from a passanger who died on the Titanic named Jack Dawson. Just a little twist, I think, but not meant to be the character played by Leo DiCaprio.

No, all the event on the ship really happened but the love story was simply somthing added in by Hollywood because lets be real, who would want to watch a plain old boring history movie?

It is based on a true story and some of the people in it were actually there. But, Rose and Jack are fictional characters.

Ismay, Andrews, Lightoller, Molly Brown, Guggenheim and the officer named "Will" were all real.

no. no factual basis. could have been a little hanky panky going on in those victorian days. usually was. nothing documented. just a tale made up by another hack hollywood writer. another little soap opera. that is what they do you know. write soap operas. more film and bigger sets and bigger budgets. some say hollywood is the corrupt anus of the usa. i would say they ruined an incredible real story with their disneyland effects and their absurd love story with the beautiful people dominating the photography. they do have wonderful cameras and lighting.

the love story was created by hollywood, but the titanic, history was exactly like it was. the reason they did this was to get you to watch, and interest you while they give you the history in the backround
