Our society will not last forever without changing, it is too decadent to survive the way it has been going...most societies that crashed abruptly (Easter Island, Rome, Norse habitations in Greenland) were lavish in their living habits, and systematically eliminated the necessary resources closest to them, ie. shelter, food, building materials, through overuse and waste...
a stagnant unchanging culture that refuses to adapt will die out...

Modern society spans the world so barring a world wide catastrophe it will survive in some form, even if the the countries which developed it fall. The Roman empire in the east survived its fall in the west. The knowledge of Egypt and Greece was transferred to Rome. Only isolated civilizations actually disappeared. However nothing last forever, but forever may be a long long time.

No need to be so dramatic.
These socieites did not come to an end - their civilisations evolved and merged with European societies.
People talk about the 'Fall of Rome' and the end of great civilisations - but people do not realisle that these civilisations did not end over night and the people just did not die - they evolved, they changed, they merged with other socieities and formed new civilisations.
The same will happen with all of our countries - the day will come when due to globalisation, we cease being countries and states. Our civilisation will not end - it will evolve and merge with other societies. Instead of English being the dominant language, our great grandchildren might be speaking part English and maybe part Chinese.
There is no need to fear the future - its coming whether we like it or not - but we will have to adapt to change and need to stop looking back.
Doesnt mean we have to stop being kind and considerate to each other.

First of all, we won't be around to witness the outcome, maybe that's why we humans live only "so" long.., however interesting, it doesn't really matter to all of us at the end., in my view, the world and the people on it change all the time, it depends on us and how we want to live our lives and what do we each have to do to make the best out of it. looking back on history, notice the pattern, when a particular civilization became more and more hungry for material and power, drifting away from simplicity and balance, it was starting to deteriorate and eventually vanish!

The last Mayan city was destroyed by the Spanish in 1541.
There were still Mayans living in some of the cities when the Spanish arrived.
It is a myth that they "died out" before the Spanish.

We will extinct. You answered your own question. It is inevitable. Change is the only constant in the universe.
