Try Christian rock bands..trust me they have the same edge as all the rest. But no foul language is used and they can promote positive messages if you listen close enough. Try these groups.

Anberlin
Skillet
Third Day
Seventh Day Slumber
Seven Places
Echoing Green
Heaven's Metal

Also the following website is for a radio staion here in my local hometown...but you can listen online and they have lists to other bands you might be interested in.

Creed, 1st & 2nd albums. Good feeling rock, dark- yet not sadistic. Positive lyrics for the most part.

Def Leppard ...prob greatest hits ('Vault' & 'Rock of Ages' are greatest hits albums) would be the best variety. Some screaming, some love ballads, some perfect in-betweeners. No bad language, just real rock and amazing talent.

For secular music, I guess Bon Jovi's "New Jersey" or Foreigner's Greatest Hits album. I also remember "Grand Illusion" by Styx as being pretty clean.

For Christian music, "Collide" by Skillet, "Sea of Faces" by Kutless, "Where Do We Go from Here?" by Pillar, and "Come Together" and "Wire" by Third Day.

Avenged Sevenfold is a good christian rock band with no profanity whatsoever. Especially good are their older albums.

Judas Priest albums I also find to be very spiritual.

Lou Reed Is also completely non-profane, and I highly recommend his music.

I like The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. I'm not sure if you'd classify them as rock, but I think they're really good. For the most part, they don't say bad stuff.
