First off, I hope that your daughter is ok.

And secondly, you are obviously a concerned parent and you feel that something should have been done. I'm just guessing here, but don't feel bad that you haven't talked to your daughter about this before...now is the perfect oportunity to let her know that this type of bahavior is not acceptable and she needs to inform someone of what happened. Your daughter should have told the teacher as soon as it happened and then the teacher should have taken appropriate action. 5 year olds...especially boys, don't know how to controll thier anger, but if nothing is done then they will never learn. They need to be told that punching someone is not the norm, not the nice thing to do, or even the expected behavior. And at that age, the teacher would have made the boy apologize and then that teacher should have let the parents know what their child did. (And the responsible thing that the other parents would have done would be to contact you and apologize.) If the teacher witnessed it and did nothing then I believe you have another problem on your hands.

If he punches her and gets away with it now, what will he do in the future when he gets a girlfriend or wife?

She should go and tell it to the teacher. You as a parent have to address your concern to her teacher about what happened during that moment. You also need to tell your daughter that the way the other boy proceeded was bad. If this altercation happens in the future, tell your girl that it's ok to beat the crap out of that kid. Get her into some self defense classes too. Nothing empowers a child more that open dialogue with their parents and self respect, even if she has to end up getting her hands dirty. Good luck!

This happened to my daughter with 2 other girls. I approached the kindergarten where i was told that the 2 girls would be spoken to. This not satisfying me, i approached the Father of the 2 girls who explained that as he is at work he saw nothing. Again not satisfied with the attitude i confronted i then, in front of the father, asked my daughter if she required retribution which she replied yes, i then told my daughter she may procede to punch both girls which she did then i asked the father "you didnt see that either did you?" the on going bullying by these 2 girls ended that day.

I hope the teacher informed his parents. It isn't the right advice, but I would teach her self defense, and where to kick him if he does it again.

My dad always told me to hit back if someone hit me first or he would punish me for putting up with it. Don't give me a thumbs down, that's how I was raised.
