The quickest way would be to lay down sod. Otherwise you can spread some seed. This will take a while to become lush.

Phone your local gardening suppliers. For a fee, they will remove the rocks and dirt, level the entire yard out, bring in some pre grown lawn (turf) , roll them out on your lawn and viola, the old dirty area is now a dim memory.
I do not like simply putting on grass seeds. The variety usually doesnt match what you have in pieces around your existing lawn. Then it all looks patchy and amateurish and well-- ugly. Beside, if there are rocks, who wants to mow that type of lawn later?

Throw down some grass seed and alittle starter fertilizer and water it everyday for at least 2 weeks. In 6 weeks time you will have a grassy lawn.

Get turf. They roll it out just like carpet.
