You could also ask, "Why did FDR ignore the majority of Americans view on WWII?" Simple, "What is popular is not always right, while what is right is not always popular." Besides, I don't think every American goes to those polls.

Because the President's job isn't catering to the American public.

The American people spoke clearly as to who they wanted to sit in that oval office. Not once but twice!.. mind you.
President Bush's job is to do what the American people entrusted him to do: make decisions, not play tug of war with Idea of trying to please every last person in this country.
You people are in no position to say that President Bush doesn't know what he is doing considering none of you have ever been held to that kind of responsibility.

I think the President is doing exactly what needs to be done at this point. It's these boneheads in Congress I worry about.
Whether he "lied" about Iraq having WMDs or not is irrelevant to the fact that he atleast has some sense enough to know that the military needs to take care of its own affairs on the ground and finish the job, regardless of the pretenses. We don't need people back in Washington trying to pull the strings while tying the military's hands up in the process. These people do not know what is directly going on on the battlefield. The government needs to stay the heck out of the way.

With that being said, no... the majority of Americans view on Iraq is not cut and run. Sorry. Life is full of disappointment.

There isn't that much going on in Iraq. There hasn't been much of anything going on there for a long time. There were those occasional roadside bombs, but Iraq has never been a war zone. Most of that was simply media hype. The U.S. media makes everything so dramatic. It's for ratings. Most of the terrorists in Iraq have been killed or imprisoned. Michael Moore and Sean Penn would not have been allowed to travel to Iraq if the place had been that dangerous. Let Bush and the military worry about Iraq. Most Americans don't care about what's happening in Iraq. If there really was that much going on in Iraq, then the U.S. media would not have spent the entire summer of 2005 covering the case of Natalee Holloway in Aruba. The U.S. media would have been covering the situation in Iraq. The main reason anyone in Congress is so interested in Iraq is because Iraq has the world's second-largest oil reserves. Don't assume that Democrats have no interest in Iraq. Al Gore needs oil just as much as anyone else. He needs oil for his SUVs and private jets.

Because most Americans get their information from the media, who's only agenda is starting controversy to raise their ratings.A better question would be why does the majority of Americans not listen more to the military regarding the necessity of the war.Their agenda is the safety of our nation.

He knows, but doesn't care. The bush administration invaded Iraq despite of the protests, and ignored the current protests to bring the troops home. Instead, it sends more troops to the hell, giving the American public the middle finger. More than that, they plan to get in another war.

He is not listening to the majority of the world, neither the majority of Americans, even not to his father who was against the war in Iraq. He is listening to his testosterone. "Yeah, I am a man, I will f... these bloody arabs and take their oil !!"

Because the man is a dry drunk. Dry drunks are people who aren't finding their comfort in the bottom of a bottle or can anymore, but whose thinking is still clouded by alcohol.

Dry drunks usually exhibit exaggerated self-importance and pomposity, grandiose behavior, a rigid and judgmental outlook, impatience, childish behavior, irresponsible behavior, irrational rationalization, projection, and overreaction. Things which Bush has in the past exhibited and continues to exhibit even today.

Bush gets his briefings from the generals in the field - apparently, the majority of people get their briefings from CNN and the main stream media.
This war, like all congressional approved military actions, should be fought by the military - and not by our draft dodging representatives on Capital Hill. Once the initial commitment is made, we must learn to let the military do its job.

Because he is a corrupt, drunk-with-power bastard who doesn't flutter an eyelash at the loss of Americans' lives. His thinking seems to be "Oh, well. I can always send in more!".

Here we go again! What part of "representative democracy" is so hard to understand? We elect leaders to represent us, They use their judgement to make decisions based on the best information available to them. A real leader does NOT decide according to the latest poll numbers.
