Great question! I've played at least 15 tennis video games over the years and my top five, in order would be:

Top Spin - Xbox
Sega Tennis 2K2 (Virtua Tennis 2) - Dreamcast (now on PS2)
Smash Court Tennis Pro Tournament 2 (PS2)
Super Tennis (SNES)
Virtua Tennis 1 (Dreamcast)

I have yet to play Top Spin 2 or Virtua Tennis 3 but I understand that they are both pretty amazing. Top Spin is at the top because it pretty much revolutionized the whole genre of tennis games. The realism, sound, ambience and feel of tennis are all there. That game came out 5 years ago and I still play it at least an hour a week. Absolutely wonderful game. The use of real players and realistic likenesses also help.
Smash Court Tennis is on there simply because it's just plain fun. It was nothing revolutionary but the sound is great and there are a ton of real players on there. Important players, too.
The other games are important to me just because they too revolutionized the tennis game genre when they came out. Super Tennis was considered the very best until Virtua Tennis came out (about 8 years later, by the way. It carried the torch for a long time). Virtua Tennis was considered the very best until its sequel came out (2k2) and 2k2 was considered the very best until Top Spin came out. None of the games to come out since have been said to have remarkably improved on Top Spin and I personally still consider it the best.
Hey, how about honorable mention to Pong. The very first video game was also a tennis game, technically.

There are three, depending on what kind you're looking for.

Wii Sports Tennis-if you don't know, for this game you can swing the controller like you would a tennis racket. It's not the same as playing tennis, but its a lot closer then pushing buttons.

Topspin 2-the most realistic tennis game. Uses real players, shots, courts, tournaments. Excellent graphics and ball physics.

Mario Tennis-realistic and extremely fun. And, you get to play as Mario characters!

I bought an XBOX simply because of "Top Spin". It's an awesome tennis game, in fact, the best tennis game I have ever played. Very realistic game play and great graphics. I think the most recent version is out now, "Top Spin 2". Give it a try, I think you'll like it.

virtua tennis (lots of top pros and most realistic play)
wii tennis can be fun, but is just not realistic , as you can just flick your wrist, moreover the graphics are v fake. I find it kind of dumb, but many of my friends like it
I hate topspin, it is just not realistic at all.
