i completely disagree with the previous poster. one thing that makes rotorys superior to pushrod, is the fact that they can be rebuilt 6 or 7 times before things need to be replaced.(ie rotor housing/rotor). They are a cheap engine to rebuild... apex seals are a peice of cake to install, and anyone with some kind of mechanical ability can replace them. These engines are so easy to rebuild, this is why people search for rx7s, little modifications can get you massive horsepower.
heres what you need:
(assuming its not a turbo)
installation gasket=$180ish
front and rear main seals=$15 for both
corner seal springs= (need 2)$3 a peice.
Inner and outer oil seal o rings=$25ish total
apex seals and springs=$180ish a set
Heres the parts: http://mazdatrix.com/b2.htm
Here are cheaper parts (some are cheaper): http://atkinsrotary.com/
buy yourself a video that explains how to rebuild it:
http://www.fd3s.net/rebuild_kit.html

**EDIT**
if it is a turbo, then the parts get significantly more expensive.

if you have the tools and no how theses engines are like puzzles. with small pieces inside but with a good book about them anyone can do this. a 1.3 will pull harder than a Chevy stock and you still get 20-30 mpg get a good book and a master rebuild kit with all seals and springs and most important the apex runners(seals) there are no paper gaskets on the inside just rubber ring seals. is the car hard to start. that is the first sign it is time for a rebuild. these engines are always low on compression. should be over 80psi if is not.it we be hard to start hot they all smoke when they first start because oil is shot into the rotors to lube them like a 2 stroke. in fact they will run cooler with 2 cycle oil in the gas but not recommended.
note: if is a smoker asin all the time then yes rebuild or a used one is cheaper do comp test on the used one first put a rope around the pulley like a lawn mower and pull have someone hold the tester i have done this to start mine also.
psi must be above 80 on both or is no good. if you go used replace oil pump and chain before intall. good luck and have fun. these are a blast to drive.

Ok. you can rebuild a rotary engine.
but the problem arises when the apex seals wear out, so does the outer housing that the seal rides against. this surface is nonmachineable & cannot be repaired. therefore rebuilding the engine now takes on a whole different meaning. now you have to find a housing (of which very few are available).
Take it from a rotary tech. even mazda doesnot rebuild them. they just replace the engines. & having the tools to separate the motor & realign it when building it can be pricey).

you have to replace the apex seals-has to be done by a pro!!!!-pretty much it cannot be rebuilt-these cars are great except for the engine witch only runs for about 80000 miles.Grannys speed shop makes a adaptor that puts a chevy 350 in one.My friend has one with a 5 speed and its a real fast car!

try asking mazda for the parts or sell that engine to buy a new engine.
