I think it might be a disappointment to some fans of Tom Cruise, given that he has based his career on being one of the ideal prototypes for what women want and what guys want to be percieved as. And many see homosexuality as a dent in the manhood of a person. John Travolta is leaning his career towards being looked at as a family man who does middle of the row movies, that are fun and enjoyable by all. Dads and moms/kids. So coming out as a homosexual may make it hard for families to accept him as a family man and wholesome guy, given the stereotypes.

Most celebrities, especially the males, go both ways. You only can climb so high on the ladder of success unless you're willing to "fit in" and it's the same way with politics. So, just put yourself in their shoes. Everyone does it, nobody talks about it. Why would they? There's absolutely nothing to gain by offering up such information to the general public. It's kinda like asking why they don't stab themselves in the chest with an ice pick. But your question did make me chuckle, so thanks.
