In apalachia where I grew up; a bird in the house was perceived to be a bad omen.
About 20 years ago a bird got into my house in Tennessee by coming down the chimney and getting into the stove,
I was the onl one living there, and I am still here. ;-)

As for how the bird got in, maybe there was a window open and a hole in a screen that you were unaware of. About the omen of death--that's just all superstitious. I personally do not believe in any of that stuff, so you'll be fine. I'm sure the bird will be fine as well; most animals are able to heal themselves easily in their natural environment.

No, it's superstition. Put it like if you had a pet bird in your house, someone would die. If it was like that, we wouldn't have any pet birds!

Try to find an opening or open window. The bird just got in, nothing omen about it.
